Who and What in a Nutshell

Open Jar is a Calgary-based business owned and operated by me, Tara Lee. The entire reason for Open Jar’s existence is to help people grow, heal, and be bold enough to reach their full potential. Tarot reading is my primary line of business, but I also teach psychic development, and do tarot parties. Tarot can do so many things; provide clarity, direction, cause for hope, and perspective.

My Background

I learned to read tarot cards in my early twenties and have been reading them on a regular basis since I graduated from university in 2002. After graduation, I worked as a mechanical engineer until 2008, passionately pursuing tarot (and eventually Reiki too) on the side. I then left my engineering practice to start a business doing the one thing I most loved to do -read tarot!

Mostly self-taught, I decided to take a tarot course in 2008 just to take my understanding of the cards that much deeper. I completed an Advanced Tarot course with the well known Calgary reader, Janine Morigeau. Next, I began studying mediumship under the talented psychic-medium Mary Jane Kapteyn. I also count among my mentors Areil Learoyd, with whom I took Reiki training and who continues to teach me a great deal through her quiet, subtle-but-profound wealth of wisdom and intuition.

How I Work

Like all tarot readers, I simply use the cards to clarify the intuitive information that I receive. While reading, I let my intuition do the talking and give my own opinions a break. On the rare occasion that I feel it appropriate to give my own two-cents on something, I’ll make it clear that what I’m about to say comes from me, not my intuition. Intuitively, I’m primarily clairsentient, increasingly empathic, as well as a little clairvoyant and clairaudient.

Every reading is unique but in general, my focus is on what people can do right now to create the futures they want. Occasionally, a client is just interested in future predictions and I can provide that but frankly, it’s rarely ever useful to know. If I can teach you to create your own future in a deliberate, enlightened manner, you won’t need anyone to predict it for you anymore.

Why “Open Jar?”

People are like bugs. No, seriously, they are! Ever trapped a bug in a jar? It tries and tries to get out, and then it just… stops. The bug sits at the bottom of the jar, feeling trapped. Once the bug stops trying, you can take off the lid but the bug won’t fly away.

Hours pass. Then in the blink of an eye, the bug is gone! Totally without warning, it just noticed it was free to go, and went.
